Masana Library Project Fundraiser:
A Eunice Ngogodo Initiative

"Masana" is a Xitsonga word for sunshine/ sun rays/ warmth of the sun.
The Masana Library Project is an initiative which aims to make the future of South African learners
brighter by improving their education where possible.
The core value of The Masana Library Project is information sharing.
This can be done through books, but it can also be done through mentorship.
The dream is for Khesethwane High School to
have a fully-fledged library with its own computers, a full-time librarian,
programs and workshops that run throughout the year,
and a vibrant reading student body.
The Masana team are constantly looking for ways to make the book 'come alive', and to
show learners how words impact their lives.

An Update on the Initiative

Thanks to everyone who donated to this amazing cause!
We raised CAD $ 6800.00!

A letter from Relebone Myambo from the Masana Library Project:

The library renovation process is underway. I am working towards the launch which will be on 9 August 2025. The launch is open to the board, teachers and some members of the industry. Invitations and press releases will be sent out next week.

General update:

In May I purchased close to 2000 books at a secondhand bookstore in Johannesburg. I spent two days sorting through and selecting books at House of Books. At a regular bookstore, new books usually cost about R350/400 a unit, so purchasing books secondhand was the best option. However at House of Books, on average each book cost R20. We are in the process of cataloguing, labelling and covering these. We had to clean some of them as they were in storage for some time and had lots of dust and slight wear and tear.  On 17 May I held a mentorship day at Khesethwane. It was partially sponsored by two pastors from the community. The goal was to introduce ourselves to the student body and also have our first event in order to build our relationship with the learners of the school. It was a success and was well attended!  Many items, such as furniture and building materials, have proven to be more expensive than anticipated. I am trying to get more money to supplement what you have given.  The renovation at Khesethwane is coming along. Since our budget is tight, we have been relying on volunteers to meet deliverables. This has made things move much slower than desired, however it has been encouraging to see parents and staff partner with us in this way. We still need to purchase more books, office supplies, casual seating, stools, building materials, and so forth. We are a long way from done but things are moving gradually.

Thank you once again for your generous donation!
I have attached plans for the library layout and photos from the mentorship day and photos of the library before renovations began.

Warm regards,
R
