Polishing Your Work: Session 1 on the 26th of November at 2pm ET
Any one scene that you've written in your WIP is the equivalent of your writing DNA; it's a snapshot of your writing in general.
Chances are that if you aren't ensuring one particular scene is doing the heavy lifting in terms of what a scene needs to accomplish, then you're probably not hitting the mark in most of your scenes.
And if your dialogue feels stilted, and if your characters lack emotionality and interiority in one scene, they're probably falling short in other scenes as well.
You might not be able to afford a full manuscript evaluation, but you may not need to.
If you're able to take one scene, and use the feedback you receive for it to assess the rest of your scenes, you'll be able to edit your own work much more critically, knowing exactly what to look out for.
And that will make the polishing phase so much easier!
In this Polishing Your Work Session 1, you'll submit a full scene (with a maximum of 1700 words).
Bestselling author, Bianca Marais, will evaluate it, providing practical written feedback within the pages of the text.
You'll also be sorted into groups with four other authors.
One week before your session, you will receive the submissions of the other four writers in your group.
Once you've registered, you will be sent criteria to use in your assessment of the submissions, and you'll be asked to provide written feedback for each author.
They will do the same with your work.
On the 26th of November, you'll be split into your groups where you will each have twenty-five minutes in which your work will be discussed by the group. Every other member of your group will get their own twenty-five minutes
in which you'll all discuss their work.
Bianca will hop between groups, guiding the discussions.
The day after the session, you'll receive Bianca's critique as well as the written critique from everyone else in your group.
You'll also receive information on how to analyze and apply the critique you've received.
There are only 25 slots available for this session.
Once this session is fully booked, the registrations will close.
Cost: CAD $ 99 / Approximately USD $ 73
Session 1 is on Saturday the 26th of November at 2-4:30pm ET
You will have to submit your 1700 words (max!) scene to Bianca by the 18th of November. You will then receive the other four submissions on Saturday the 19th of November.
Once you sign up, check your email for all the details.
